Passing of Life Member John Wayne Abel

John Wayne Abel, 57, of Pomeroy, passed away on Monday June 29, 2009 at the Brandywine Hospital. He was the husband of Jane Bireley Abel with whom he shared 16 years of marriage. Born in Mountain City, Tenn., he was the son of the late Albert and Vada Gentry Abel. An area resident most of his life, he was a graduate of Oxford High School. Vehicle Accident Rt. 10 & Commons Drive

Atglen & Parkesburg Fire Companies were dispatched at 1224 hrs. for a vehicle accident at Rt.'s 10 & 30, West Sadsbury Twp., responding apparatus found the accident to be at Rt. 10 & Commons Drive, Sadsbury Twp., which placed the call in Sadsburyvilles first run area. Station 26 was dispatched at 1354 hrs. for brush along the railroad track behind Chief 26's house. The brush was returning from the earlier traffic control call assisting Station 31 and had the station dispatched for an Engine to assist the brush. Memorial Day Boot Collection

On Friday evening crews staged themselves at the intersection of Rt. 372 & Main Street for their annual Memorial Day Boot Collection. Members spent a little over 2 1/2 hours collecting and collected a little over $300.00 for their efforts. Memorial Day Parade in Parkesburg

Motorcycle Accident at Rt's 10 & 30

On Friday night, May 15th at 2029 hrs., Atglen Fire Co was dispatched to Rt's 10 & 30, W. Sadsbury Twp. along with Parkesburg for a vehicle accident. Units arrived to find a motorcycle vs a pick up truck. While units were handling the first accident a second accident occured while rubber neckers looked on at the first accident. Woods & Brush on Upper Valley Road

Atglen Fire Co. was dispatched to 131 Upper Valley Rd. at 1215 hrs. for a trash fire. Brush 26, manned by Chief 26, arrived on location to find two big piles of tree logs/stumps, grass and woods on fire. Engine 26-1's crews was dropped off at the scene to help start with extinguishment while Deputy 26 returned to the station to exchange the Engine for the Tanker as it was going to take copious amounts ... Monday Night Hoseline and Hydrant Training

On Monday, April 27th, crews trained on hoseline advancement, hose packing and hydrant use. After spending the past few months doing training inside it was nice to finally get back outside to train. Crews worked on deploying the hoseline off the truck and stretching it out in order for the line to be "charged" or filled with water from the truck.
