On Saturday, November 14th, Atglen hosted a training class in conjunction with PPES, Personal Protection Equipment Specialists. Crews from Atglen, Kennett, Pomeroy, Wagontown, Coatesville and PPES participated with the collapse/confined space simulator from PPES. After a brief classroom session crews moved outside to the simulator to start the evolutions. Two different scenerios were practiced during the day long training. Fully packed up crews made their way through the first floor in teams of two for the first scenerio, this was then followed by utilizing the second floor of the unit, which had collapsed. All kind of debris hindered the crews while they were attempting to "rescue" a victim. Using cribbing, air bags and any other lifting equipment and stablization equipment crews worked their way through shoring up the heavy debris and securing the area so that they could gain access to the "patient". After a quick lunch crews returned to the simulator to continue running through the scenerios. The group of volunteers that participated in the training gained some new insights and valuable training lessons in the areas of Confined Space & Collapse Rescue. Thanks to all of the volunteers who gave up their Saturday to come out to this training. Special thanks to Rescue 43 & the crew for helping out by filling everyones SCBA bottles throughout the day.
